Tolerating uncertainty is tough enough in our every day lives and it often seems magnified if your chosen way of life is an alternative one. Van Life, Vandwelling, a home on wheels or whatever you want to call it often makes us question what exactly it is that makes us call something home.

Facing Familiarity

We have all got become accustomed with the same things over lockdown. The same routines, the same people, the same walks, and it’s easy to disconnect from it all. After walking the same route everyday for a few weeks, I became despondent, but in learning how to retune to my surroundings, I started to learn to see the familiar in a new light.

A sad encounter with a barn owl brought to my attention just how much individuals, local groups and small charities are doing to save our wildlife. Despite all the suffering and hardship nature is currently enduring, there are plenty of people fighting in its corner.

Wading In - a first attempt at wild river swimming

I’ve enjoyed wild swimming before but it was in the sea lochs of Scotland, and the coast around Dorset and Cornwall that I usually got my cold water fill. I had never wild swam in a river before, let alone a notoriously chilly chalk stream, so how could I refuse when a friend invited me to try river swimming for the first time?

One thing you learn very quickly living on the road, is that nothing goes to plan. You always need to be prepared for whatever comes your way - because when it happens it will happen in the most of dramatic, unexpected ways.
